After participating on the U.S. Olympic Mountain Biking Team, the winningest mountain biker of all time retired in 1997 when she was diagnosed with Lupus.

Juliana Furtado dominated mountain biking in the early 90s, winning the 1990 Cross-County Mountain World Champion, 1992 Downhill World Championship and three World Cup titles. In 1993, Furtado won 12 consecutive races to earn the World Cup and NORBA cross-country championships.After participating on the U.S. Olympic Mountain Biking Team, the winningest mountain biker of all time retired in 1997 when she was diagnosed with Lupus.
