Andrea at Velorution takes an unorthodox approach to preventing bike theft: Use a nice bike!

She He claims the bike thief is looking for quick turnover, not high price. A boutique bike is more likely to be missed and thus harder to sell for cash. She He cites a study showing that sub-$200 bikes are stolen out of proportion to their numbers compared to more expensive bikes. She He also attempts to debunks the theory that uglifying your bike reduces its chances for theft.
