Share photos on twitter with Twitpic There’s something pretty amazing about this cycling photo Carson Blume took today. You may need to click on it to see it large and in detail.

It’s not the fact that Carson Blume — a talented professional photographer — is using a craptastic phone camera on his rides. Even pros don’t like to carry their heavy, bulky SLRs with them on rides. Carson was riding his bike when he ran over a nail and it pierced straight through his rim.

I’ve seen some interesting things in tires, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anything like this. Have you pierced a wheel with a nail?

  1. Ahh, the old nail through the rim. Happened to me on a commute to work. A nice Open Pro and Conti tire ruined in one fell swoop.

Actually, I took the rim to the LBS and the mech said keep rding it. So, I did and still am two years later.

  6. I put a nail through a Sun rim on the way to working at the bike shop in 1994. I patched everything up and rode to work, and rod e the rim until a replacement came in from QBP.

I just told everyone who saw it that i had been in a high-speed chase and the cops shot my tire out.

  8. Bicycle snow mobile!? Awesome! I would love one of those! I'm sort of scared of snow mobiles but a self-propelled one seems much safer (and slower).
