Mark Cavendish book signing

Mark Cavendish will appear at Helen’s Cycles in Santa Monica on Monday, May 24th at 6 p.m. to meet fans and autograph his autobiography, Boy Racer.

Mark Cavendish holds his book Boy Racer

“You should read my book,” Cavendish told the assembled media after his Stage 1 win in the 2010 Amgen Tour of California in Sacramento last Sunday. “It’s a good book.”

I’m a little halfway through Boy Racer and I agree, it’s pretty good. The writing is breezy and conversational and open, though it’s a little awkward reading about his undying love for “Lissie” and her family knowing that he’s broken up with the girl next door and is now seen with the leggy Italian-Paraguayan beauty queen Fiorella Migliore.

Friday bike news

“Don’t Kill the Messenger,” about bike messengers in Washington DC, highlights the danger of biking in DC, so whatever. I’m not a messenger nor do I ride like one, but I’ve been cycling with traffic for over a couple of decades now and I’ve yet to even come close to having titanium bits inserted into my wrist. F-bomb alert in this video. I yelled at a woman driving a huge GM SUV this morning when she tried to merge directly into me, but that’s unusual. Props to Rosscott, Inc.
