Las Vegas Critical Mass

Or something like a Critical Mass anyway, as 300 people rode their bikes down from the Sands Convention Center to the end of the Las Vegas Strip at Mandalay Bay where they did a U turn and did it again.

After the Thursday afternoon Interbike fashion show, Bike Hugger held their first Ignite Bikes presentation, which was something like a micro TED Conference for bike nerds. They had some heavy hitters who each spend about five minutes talking about bikes and related topics.

After that, everybody hopped on their bikes and rode down the Las Vegas Strip. I could find only a couple of photos of this ride, but I picture the bicycling nuns and firemen scene from “Americathon” as the Vegas Strip ride was described thusly in tweets.

@bikehugger: A marvelous Mobile Social. Police escort, jogging models, Alley Cats, freak bikes, big wheels, music, a family too.

@JessiStensland: Police escorted cruiser bike ride down and back on the Strip at sunset. One way to end the day.

Speaking of Critical Mass, today is the last Friday of the month, and tonight marks the 18th anniversary of the first Critical Mass.

  1. Been a part of the critical mass in Buenos Aires for about 6 months now, it’s a beautiful thing, and all the moreso because there is just an utter dearth of bike lanes here. Great stuff.
