San Jose Slow Roll to Maker Faire

Bicycle ride San Jose to San Mateo Maker Faire this weekend; Meetups in Mountain View and Redwood City

Alison Chaiken will lead bike rides from downtown San Jose to Maker Faire, riding at a very casual 10 mph pace (this includes the stops, so real cycling speed will be around 15 mph) for the 30 mile distance. We’ll start at 8:30 AM on Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23 from Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown San Jose — this is the oval plaza with the fountains and the turd Quetzalcoatl sculpture near the Tech Museum and Museum of Art.

“Official” meetups will be at Castro Street Mountain View Caltrain station at about 9:30 AM (but arrive earlier please), and another meetup at Redwood City Caltrain at 10:45 AM or so (again, arrive 15 minutes early). We expect to arrive at Maker Faire around 11:30 AM and park bikes at the Bike Valet Parking. It’s free, but bring cash for tips. Entry to Maker Faire is *not* free to bring cash for that as well. When you ride your bike to Maker Faire you get a $5 discount off of the $25 entry fee; the discounted tickets will be sold from the bike valet parking area.

We won’t wait for you, but figure the 10 to 15 mph pace on the bike directions and you might look for us as we pass by Santa Clara University, Sunnyvale Caltrain, downtown Palo Alto, and Menlo Park Willow Road & Middlefield.

I’ll ride from San Jose on Saturday and I’ll bring (…. rummaging through my goody bag …) some issues of the current edition of Urban Velo to hand out.

You do not want to drive to Maker Faire — parking access is the pits. The one year I drove it was something like 45 minutes to get into the parking lot.

If you’re in the South Bay, please tweet, post to Facebook, etc. and thank you!
