With high temperatures in the 80s to over 100 over a big swath of the United States and around other parts of the world, many of us are thinking of ways to stay cool.
To keep your mind off of the red hot pavement, Salsa Cycles announced their very first snow bike, the Mukluk.
The Salsa Mukluk is a 6061-T6 Double-Butted Aluminum Snow Bike built with FSA 22-32-44 rings, Shimano SLX direct mount front derailleur, Shimano HG-50 12-36 cassette, SRAM X.7 9-Speed rear derailleur. Avid BB7 Mountain with 160mm rotor on both front and rear wheels stop the bike. Wheels are 32 hole Vicious Cycles Graceful Fat Sheba built around 135mm Surly New Disc Hub (front) and Salsa Mukluk 170mm Rear Disc Hub by Formula (rear). 26 x 3.8 inch Surly Larry tires will keep you floating on snow and sand. Those balloons can probably double as life preservers as well.
The bike is also available as a frame & fork only with the Salsa enabler fork.
Says Salsa about their Mukluk:
Mukluk is designed first and foremost to be a snow bike. Snowy singletrack, snowmobile trails, and snow-covered frozen lakes and rivers are its home.
A snow bike is nothing without floatation. Wide rims, and wide tires run at proper pressure for the conditions, make the difference between riding and pushing.
There will always be conditions that will bring any bike to a halt. We’ve designed Mukluk with a very low standover height to aid when forced to dab, stop/start, or dismount/remount.

It's about a skillion degrees here in the Twin Cities and about 143% humidity. My thoughts of snow are the only things that keep me going in the wretched heat.

Maybe those wide tires on the Mukluk are good for float on melting pavement too.
