Bike To Work Day

Thursday, May 12 2011 is Bike To Work Day in the San Francisco Bay Area and many other California cities.

Bike To Work Day is always “26 Mile Tour of Silicon Valley Energizer Stations Day” for me as my colleague Dan and I meet up in San Jose and bike up from the South Bay while sampling the breakfast stations in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto and Menlo Park. These Energizer Stations provide food, drink and schwag to everybody passing through. You can even get quick bike tuneups at the larger stations such as the REI sponsored location at Mountain View Caltrain.

This year I need to stay close to home for a school activity, so I think I’ll sample Santa Cruz County offerings, which means I’ll miss out on my annual BTWD musette bag collection. I’ll take photos along favored Santa Cruz cycling routes so watch for me with my camera. I’ll also hand out Zero Per Gallon stickers.

  1. One of my coworkers and I were discussing Bike To Work Day. Since we’re both hardcore all-weather cyclists, the idea was floated, to mix things up, for us to charter a stretched hummer limo to pick me up from Sunnyvale, then pick her up from the Presidio, then drop both of us off at the office in the Mission. Therefore not only taking a tacky inefficient way to get to work, but also wastefully depriving ourselves of the environmental benefits of carpooling.

  2. Am I the only one who looked for a BurmaShave logo at the end of the sign trail?
