Human Transit

I read Jarrett Walker’s Human Transit blog, and now I’ve ordered the book.

Human Transit book cover

Author Jarrett Walker is public transportation consultant based in Portland, OR with a worldwide practice. In his new book, Walker wants to simplify the discussion of transit by focusing first on the underlying geometry that all transit technologies share.

In Human Transit, Walker supplies the basic tools, the critical questions, and the means to make smarter decisions about designing and implementing transit services. Human Transit explains the fundamental geometry of transit that shapes successful systems; the process for fitting technology to a particular community; and the local choices that lead to transit-friendly development.

I haven’t read the book so I can’t tell you how wonky it is, but Jarrett’s blog is reasonably accessible to me as a non-professional in the world of public transportation.

(I haven’t received any direct consideration for mentioning this book, but I do get a percentage of the sales if you click through here and buy the book from Powells or Amazon.)
