Point6 Cycling Socks

For some reason, Ted of Commute By Bike believes I have a sock fetish of some kind. I won’t admit to anything, but he recently turned me on to Point 6 Cycling Socks and I like what I see so far.

Point6 was founded by Peter and Patty Duke in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. If their names sound familiar, it’s because they founded Smartwool back in the 90s (when people were content to be unambitious). They agreed to a non-compete clause when they sold to Timberland in 2005, but after that expired they started spinning socks again for the athletic market.

Like Smartwool, Point6 features high quality Merino wool which is cushiony cozy on the feet. I’m a big fan of wool socks — my favorites are wool / nylon blends from DeFeet. They’re comfortable, but the DeFeet socks are not 100% Merino like the Point6 socks are.

Point6 is newish so their cycling sock selection is still limited to basic colors and designs. After comfort and looks, I’m concerned with durability, so I’ll put the Point6 socks through their paces and let you know how they hold up.

  1. Ask yourself this – do you take socks to bed with you from time to time? And do you have them with you nearly every waking hour? If so, you probably do have a sock fetish. Just sayin….

I am curious about your opinion on Sockguy socks – I have a few pair that I really like for when the weather is not too cold. I tend to wear smartwool in the cooler weather days, and go for heavy wool hiking socks when it is really cold.

  3. I love Sock Guy’s fun designs. I have several pair of their synthetic socks, and Sock Guy has their own wool/synthetic blend socks as well.
