103 year old cyclist

Some people are billing Octavio Orduño as the “World’s Oldest Cyclist.” Whether it’s true or not, he still deserves props for continuing to cycle though Long Beach California nearly every day just like he’s done for the past 40 years.

Octavio turns 103 on Monday. When he was 100 years old, his wife of 60 years compelled him to trade his two wheeler in for a Torker adult trike. The Califonia DMV also took his drivers license away at that time because the retired aerospace worker was losing his coordination.

It’s good to see human powered transportation even works (or especially works?) for those with limited mobility.

More at LA Times.

H/T to Edwin.

  1. He is great! I want to be such a man. Well, I will continue to jog everyday as usual. Of course, cycling too. Thank you.

  2. Fantastic – our local Sustrans project has a Pashley trike that they loan out. It’s very popular with older people, who’ve often fallen into thinking life is about what they can no-longer do. Not sure that they’ve ever had anyone over a hundred on it though!
