Driver runs SUV into house; blames cyclist

Cyclists are now a house destroying scourge in Santa Cruz County!

Somebody drove his Chevy Tahoe into a house in Watsonville, California and blamed a cyclist for forcing him to lose control.

They found that about half the SUV was inside a home near the corner of Dick Phelps Road, near Pinto Lake Park.

The driver said he had swerved to avoid a bicyclist, but no bicyclist was in sight so that could not be verified.

I think it’s funny the CHP spokesman felt it necessary to include the fact that “the road curves to the left at that spot.” The speed limit on Green Valley Road is 35 MPH.

I initially saw this over the weekend in the Santa Cruz Sentinel but can’t find it anymore. The Mercury News has the same story: SUV careens into home along Green Valley Road, CHP says.

Oh, and if you haven’t seen it yet: Building Safety Awareness.

  1. Sounds similar to “there was a cyclist in the way so I was FORCED to cross the yellow line and nearly hit an oncoming car” Or, you could be reasonable and just slow down and pass a few seconds later when it’s safe…
