In their continuing move to diversify away from bicycle helmets, Giro recruited HomeRoom designer Alex Valdeman to develop their “New Road” line of apparel, which launches today through select retailers in North America, Germany and Switzerland. Valdeman’s designs blend Merino wool with technical fabrics and treatments.

The made-in-USA collared shirt shown to the right is the Giro Wind Shirt. The cotton / Lycra poplin is treated with a polymer coating to encapsulate the fabric for a breathable, water resistant shell that can be worn on and off the bike. Clean seams and hidden details create a refined look.

The 5M Overshort shown with that shirt is a blend of brushed merino wool and polyester fabric for 2-way strtech and quick dry performance. Features of these button fly shorts include a secure phone pocket and a rear u-lock pocket.

The zip up Waterproof Jacket is made from Pertex, a performance fabric that retains a cotton like hand, but is waterproof, windproof, and highly breathable. Hidden details include waterproof zippers, taped seams, a phone pocket, hidden shoulder vents, and an offset front zipper.

SS Merino Crew, a streamlined alternative to a traditional jersey, is made in the USA with a wool fabric with a durable, nylon core. Giro claims this pocketed T is one of the lightest Merino jerseys available. Three rear pockets.

Other apparel in the “New Road” line include padded undershorts (with and without a bib), a more traditional Merino jersey, a high neck zip up long sleeve wool / poly jersey, a 3/4 sleeve jersey, a sleeveless jersey, and a wind vest, all in various shades of gray and other muted tones.
