Track your cycling miles, help transportation planning

People riding bikes in Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties can help regional transportation agencies make better decisions about your bike riding routes.

The Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) has developed a planning tool to help make the Monterey Bay Area an even better place to bike. This tool will assist local governments in identifying the best places to plan for new bicycle routes throughout the three county Monterey Bay region.

They’re collecting data via bike trips recorded either via a website upload or a smartphone app (for iOS or Android). To help contribute, you can either log your bike trips on the CycleTracks Monterey website, or download the smartphone application and map your routes while you ride. You can also help by getting your friends, family, and colleagues to log there trips.

  1. Wow, this is a very great idea! It makes me wish that I lived over there to help contibute! Illinois has been trying to get into bettering the roads for cyclists more these days – maybe this is something I could recommend to IDOT! Thanks for sharing this great information! 🙂
