San Jose Bike Share launch photos

Bike Share launch passing through SJSU campus

I shot photos during the Bay Area Bike Share launch event at San Jose City Hall this morning. VTA board member Joe Pirzynski representing Los Gatos gave a prepared statement, San Jose city council member Sam Liccardo sported a “I BIKE SJ” t-shirt that I think he bought from iMinusD, and San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed pulled the switch that simultaneously released all of the bike share bikes from their locking stations. They were joined by city and VTA staffers as well as an assortment of bike hippies, curious onlookers, “Q” the San Jose Earthquakes pro soccer team mascot, and the Media.

Maybe you’ll see yourself in these photos. You can view the entire set on Flickr here, or view as a full screen slideshow here.

I also accidentally joined the VIP ride. I’ll have video from that ride late tonight, and I still have more photos to add to the set at Flickr so come back tomorrow.

Oh, and I’m still looking for your suggestions on promoting bike share with the free passes I have. If I like your idea, I’ll give you one of these free bike share day passes.

  1. I think the shared bike looks like a mamachari. Don’t you think so? 🙂 Richard, I have a special plan to ship a test mama bicycle to Seattle. The special rental program will be started there. 🙂 I will tell you about it after I successfully ship it.
