Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) hosts another round of community workshops to determine the vision of growth for the Monterey Bay region. AMBAG consists of communities in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties.


Santa Cruz Bike Party Friday June 21 2013

Santa Cruz Bike Party has moved from the fourth Friday to the second Friday of every month. This means no more conflict with San Jose Bike Party. It also means the next Santa Cruz Bike Party happens tomorrow, July 12, 2013. The theme this Friday is The Rainbow Ride.

People Power Santa Cruz announced a couple of wins this week at Santa Cruz city hall. First of all, the new city budget includes a position for a bicycle planner in the city’s transportation department. Second, the council finally decided to resolve a longstanding dispute regarding the city’s distribution of abandoned bikes. You can read the full sordid tale here, but the short of it is that the city agreed to open up the abandoned bike distribution program again.

Pro mountain bike Matthew Slaven shot and injured as he walked through a public park in Santa Cruz, California. The park where he was shot, San Lorenzo Park on Dakota Avenue, can be pretty sketchy. I avoid that area even during the day.

A new bicycle pump track will be built in Westside Santa Cruz.
