In the maps below, green shows proposed “enhanced bike lanes” (either green lanes like we have on Hedding Street now, or lanes with a buffer space between the bike lane and the general traffic lane), blue shows standard bike lanes, and teal shows the streets with proposed shared lane markings or “sharrows.”

East Side Projects

The first meeting for proposed East Side projects takes place Wednesday, August 6, 6:00 PM at the Mayfair Community Center, 2039 Kammerer Ave, San Jose, CA.

The proposed projects are:

  • Sunset‐Hopkins: Add sharrows between San Antonio Street and Ocala Avenue. San Antonio and Ocala are both bike laned streets. Sunset (between San Antonio St and Story Road) and Hopkins (south of Story Rd to Ocala) is a popular, low(-er) traffic north-south alternative to Capitol Expressway for bicycle travel. Sunset is bisected by I-880 but a pedestrian bridge connects the street for cyclists and walkers.
  • Jackson Avenue: Add bicycle lanes and sharrows between McKee Road and Alum Rock Avenue. Jackson is mostly a busy, five lane arterial with wide outside lanes.
  • Ocala Avenue: Add “enhanced bicycle lanes” between King Road and Capitol Expressway.
  • Madden Avenue: Add sharrows between Jackson Avenue and Capital Avenue.

West Side Projects

The West Side meeting takes place Wednesday, August 13, 2014, 6:00 PM, Gardner Community Center, 520 W. Virginia St.

The proposed projects are:

  • Stockton Avenue: Add bike lanes between The Alameda and Emory Street to provide an important link between Diridon Station in San Jose and Bellarmine College Prep at the Santa Clara city limit.
  • Julian Street: Add bike lanes between The Alameda and Guadalupe River Trail.
  • Park Avenue: Add new and improve existing bicycle lanes from Market Street to the Santa Clara city limits. Park is a popular and important east-west bicycle route between downtown San Jose and the city of Santa Clara.
  • Lincoln Avenue: Add bicycle lanes between Willow Street and San Carlos Street; add sharrows and signing between San Carlos and Park Avenue. Lincoln provides the connection between the Willow Glen neighborhood and downtown. The proposed segment for sharrows is very short consisting of a single block through Sunol and very low traffic.
  • Scott‐Auzerais: Add sharrows between MacArthur Avenue and and Los Gatos Creek Trail. This route takes you most of the way to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center on Bascom.

  1. Is there any released info on how they might add a lane to Julian at the train underpass near Stockton?
