San Jose commuter meetup

A group of us will meetup for coffee Wednesday morning 8:15 to about 9 AM at Bel Bacio Italian Cafe in Little Italy just north of downtown San Jose. The time roughly coincides with Caltrain 312, 314 and 216 arrivals at San Jose Diridon.

Bel Bacio Italian Cafe

Bel Bacio is located just off of the Guadalupe River Trail immediately south of Julian Street. If you take the SAP Center / Autumn Street shortcut to the trail from Diridon Station, you’ll bypass Little Italy completely – you have to get on the official trail from St. John Street to see the cafe.

If you’re traveling north on the trail, turn right into the Piazza Piccola Italia – the Little Italy Plaza. Don’t worry about the “No Trespassing” sign – those with business there are welcome to pass through, but please ride your bike slowly.

If you hit Julian Street, never fear; make a right turn and another immediate right on the next street, North Almaden Boulevard. Bel Bacio is about the 5th or 6th cute little house on the right.

No RSVP necessary – just show up – but feel free to let me know if you think you’ll be there. This is meant for bike commuters but if you’re driving or walking in the downtown area feel free to drop by anyhow, and you can meet the famous Lady Fleur while you’re there. Prices are about what you’d expect in a San Jose cafe.

See you Wednesday morning! More about Bel Bacio Cafe at their website.

  1. Stumbled across this today, a day late. Bummed I missed it. I’ve been looking to find some bike commuters I can learn from as I’m just getting started and planning to come from Morgan Hill to Santa Clara and looking for advice. Maybe I can catch the next meet up.

  2. I’m thinking about a monthly “bike train” from downtown to the north side of San Jose and Santa Clara along the Guadalupe River Trail. Stay tuned!

Do you plan to bike the entire distance? One of my colleagues rides VTA 168 to San Jose and then bikes the rest of the way to the office.

  3. I am guessing it will take me a while to get in shape to the point where I can go the whole way without consuming half my day. It’s about 30 miles total, and I am just getting started… I will have to check out the VTA 168 route. There is an express buss that goes a few blocks from where I live to a few blocks from where I work. But the goal is to get some excercise! 🙂
