Sandy Plenty rides a bicycle

Sandy Plenty was diagnosed at age three with primary pulmonary hypertension, which leads to shortness of breath, fatigue, coughing and other symptoms that limit physical exertion.

He didn’t let his chronic disease stop him, however, and took up competitive mountain biking. Mr Plenty tells his story in this YouTube video from SealSkinz.

SealSkinz is a British outerwear company who are best known for their waterproof athletic socks. They’re frequently recommended by winter cyclists, and the people who use them rave about them. These thin socks keep your feet completely dry even when submerged in ice cold water. SealSkinz socks were originally designed for kayakers and canoists, but became popular with other outdoor enthusiasts and commuters and are exposed to cold and wet conditions.

I’m less familiar with SealSkinz gloves and hats, but if they’re anything like the socks I’m sure they’re worth having.

  1. I have a pair of SealSkinz cycling gloves. Unfortunately, the bulky Velcro strap is annoying and they are not nearly warn enough for me. Though to be fair, I have perpetually cold hands and the gloves are only rated for “moderate” cold.
