The more the merrier: A bike pool AND and a bike train

In 2013, a group of design students from the California College of Arts worked with the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition on ways to encourage cycling. This unique bipool logo represents a formal infrastructure for carpool-like bicycle commute rides.

SVBC Youth Programs Coordinator Ashley Hernandez leads the first bipool (now called “BikePool”) test ride this Wednesday, March 18, 2015 between Almaden Lake and downtown San Jose.

This initial BikePool ride departs from the Sonoma Chicken Coop parking lot at Almaden Expressway and McAbee Road near Almaden Lake at 7:30 AM. Meetup points along the way include:

  • 7:45 am: Ohlone-Chynoweth Light Rail Station (free park and ride – enter at Santa Teresa Blvd.)
  • 8:15 am: Tamien Light Rail Station (which also has a free park and ride lot).
  • 8:30 am: Arrive San Jose City Hall.

The map below shows the checkpoints and approximate route for this Wednesday morning bike commute.

Ashley will also lead an evening return ride, beginning 5:30 PM from City Hall. This is a first time ever BikePool ride, so times are approximate. Your participation and input is important to help create a fun and convenient commute experience.

If you plan to join up, please RSVP to ashley@bikesiliconvalley.org.

Wait, there’s more!

San Jose bike train with dates

Our regularly scheduled San Jose Bike Train also takes place Wednesday morning. The theme is green. We meet at Diridon Station at 8 AM, with the usual meetup by Bel Bacio shortly after and then the departure for points north. If you would a pickup from the Curtner Ave Park & Ride, Tamien Park & Ride or from the free parking on Autumn Street next to the Coleman Avenue Target store, please RSVP.
