Job Opening: UC Davis Bicycle Program Coordinator

University of California at Davis has a job opening for a Bicycle Program Coordinator. Yes, this means long-time bike program coordinator David Takemoto-Weerts is retiring.

UC Davis is located 11 miles west of Sacramento in the “Bicycle Capital of America.” In the city of Davis, 20% of residents commute by bike according to US Census ACS estimates. Travel surveys show 55% of trips on the UC Davis campus are made by bike. Bicycling to work and to get around is super easy in Davis, especially if you live in staff housing. The only real drawback: bike theft is a serious problem on the campus.

Davis has a California Central Valley climate: dry, hot summers, and cool, rainy winters. A bike path connects you to the Midtown Sacramento and the State Capitol. Amtrak Capitol Corridor train provides 15 daily trains to both the Bay Area and to Sacramento, and 11 trains for each direction on the weekends and holidays.

The highly regarded UC Davis is particularly well known for their excellence in the life sciences. Their schools of veterinary medicine and agriculture are among the top-ranked in the nation.

Rent in Davis runs about $1500 for a 2 bedroom apartment. Media home price is about a half million dollars. I don’t know what kind of housing benefits UC Davis offers for staff.
