My two seconds of fame in this Bike to Work Day 2016 Video

Movers & Shakers Ride 2016 DTSJ San Fernando Street

Woo hoo! I make a special appearance for about two seconds in the background at 1:05 in a Bike to Work Day 2016 video from the San Francisco Bay Area Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC).

On Bike to Work Day last week, I participated in the “Movers and Shakers” ride organized by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) from downtown San Jose to North San Jose. MTC, which does transportation planning for the nine county San Francisco Bay Area and organizes Bike to Work Day for this region, used video from this ride for their retrospective short on the day.

The “Movers and Shakers” ride gives you the opportunity to ride with some of the influential big wigs in Silicon Valley politics and bike advocacy. In approximate order of appearance, other people of my acquaintance who appear in this video include:

  • Santa Clara County Supervisor Cindy Chavez (pink cruiser)
  • San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo (tie, blue shirt, brown loafers, trouser tucked into sock)
  • Jennifer Gile (green Public bike in a black dress with whom I often commute to work)
  • Mike Norris (big sign inside the front triangle)
  • Karen Gauss (with the music bike, and another regular commute buddy)
  • Kristal Caidoy (red pants, print shirt, serves on Milpitas BPAC)
  • Santa Clara County Supervisor Ken Yeager (bike shorts and VTA jersey)
  • Shiloh Ballard (Executive Director SVBC)
  • Brent Pearse (also in bike shorts and VTA jersey, but with a beard; another regular commute partner)
  • Christian Reif (blue shirt, silvery vest; a daily commuter. I rode with him once before)
  • Bob Mack (publisher of Cycle California! magazine, in the bush hat)
  • Colin Heyne (SVBC Deputy Director, beige shorts, yellow jacket)
  • Tracy Corral (Editor Cycle California! magazine at 0:46)
  • Nuria Fernadez (VTA General Manager / CEO, I frequently see her walking to work)
  • John Brazil (SJ DOT Bike / Ped program manager, dark gray shirt), and
  • Anthony Ryan (the art teacher “poster boy” in San Francisco, online friends but we’ve met IRL too).

Please let me know in the comments if you appeared in this video and I missed you. I looked for others of my acquaintance that I know participated in the ride but didn’t spot you.

You can see many of these people in better detail in my Bike to Work Day photo collection here.

The SF Bay Area and Monterey Bay Regions celebrated Bike to Work Day 2016 on Thursday, May 12. Most cities in California and around the United States will celebrate their Bike to Work Day either today (Thursday, May 19) or tomorrow (Friday, May 20, 2016). Colorado will celebrate their Bike to Work Day on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.

  1. (Referring to the top photo.) Hey, single file, you damn road hogs! 😉

  2. Damn, my eyes are bad. Didn’t see you but I did see that Mayor Schaaf needs to raise her seat. 😉
