Santa Clara County Roads requests input on Complete Streets opportunities

Santa Clara County (California) Roads Department will present their paving maintenance schedule at the VTA BPAC meeting next Wednesday, January 13, 2016, and they’ve asked for input from the BPAC regarding opportunities for Complete Streets improvements for these roads.

County Roads is responsible for maintaining all surface streets in unincorporated Santa Clara County. The County Roads Department will chipseal the roads listed below in 2016. This is only a pavement maintenance project with no plans to improve intersections, but the department seeks input from the BPAC on roads where striping can be changed to help improve pedestrian and cyclist safety and comfort. I personally would love to see Bikes May Use Full Lane signs on some of the narrow mountain roads such as Black Road.

County Roads will also take comments regarding any other Complete Streets features that the BPAC members note are needed for the roads included in this list and the County will look for grant or other opportunities to implement these improvements.

  1. That’s funny, I gave them direct and explicit feedback about improving the Homestead/Lawrence intersection’s markings while they were repainting it recently, and they were polite and responsive but repainted the old lines anyway. (The bike lane is marked contiguously across the slip lane only on the southwest corner – Homestead eastbound by Kaiser – and the travel lanes on Homestead widen on the other three).

    See you on Wednesday…
