Today is the birthday of cabaret star Eartha Kitt.
She rides a bike down the street in New York City, where she lived as a teen. Photographer Gordon Parks shot this for LIFE Magazine in July, 1952. She spoke four languages and sang in seven. Kitt passed on Christmas Day, 2008.
