From Platty Jo’s Bay Area Bike Theft Posse comes word if an unidentified bike thief at large stealing high end bikes from residences and the Castro Street Caltrain station in Mountain View, California.
From the Mountain View police:
On 5-2-13 at about 1015 hours a witness reported that an unknown subject knocked on the front door of her second-floor condominium. She looked outside but did not recognize the subject, so she did not answer the door. A few minutes later she looked outside again and saw the subject cut the cable lock securing her roommate’s bicycle and leave with the bicycle. Officers checked the area but did not locate the suspect or the bicycle.
On 4-28-13 at about 1100 hours a subject was photographed at the Castro/Evelyn CalTrain station cutting the lock off of a bicycle using yellow-handled bolt cutters. Security camera video also showed the suspect riding through the area on a bicycle and carrying a large black duffel bag over one shoulder. The witness in the above case was shown that photo and was confident it was the same suspect. MVPD Officer Kevin Nguyen created the attached composite sketch based on the witness’ description. The suspect is described as a white male, mid-20s, slim build, with a light beard. In both cases he was wearing a baseball cap, possibly with a Cleveland Indians logo on it.
Several thefts of high-end bicycles have recently occurred in the downtown Mountain View area with the same M.O.
If you recognize the suspect, or have similar thefts, please contact Officer Kevin Galloway at MVPD 650-903-6344 x1344; kevin-DOT-galloway-AT-mountainview-DOT-gov
This guy seems to be using a bolt cutter on cable locks, so protect your bike with a quality U-lock.
