Update: Analysis of the verdict.

The New York police officer who allegedly body slammed a cyclist during a Critical Mass ride was found guilty of falsifying his report in which he claimed he the cyclist assaulted Pogan, and Pogan merely hit back in self defense.

Strangely, the jury acquitted Pogan of the assault charge, which is exactly what he lied about in his police report.

So, if Pogan didn’t actually assault Christopher Long, why exactly would Pogan lie about it?

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour signed SB 3014 — “The John Paul Frerer Bicycle Safety Act” — this week. This “Bicycle Safety Law” includes a “three foot” passing requirement and other important changes to Mississippi law. Mississippi also joins the 41 states with discriminatory “Far to the Right” laws on the books. (more…)

while the need to protect non-smokers is well established, the necessity of protectin non-drivers has yet to arrive in the mainstream.

Christian raises a fascinating question as to whether the protection of non-smokers is a curiosity or a precedent.

In a completely cycling-free lecture, Marjane Satrapi comments that cartoonists aren’t taken seriously in part because most people learn to draw as children and then give it up as adults.
