Silicon Valley Bike Trains

Bike Trains are individuals who commute by bike together

Silicon Valley bike Train

Silicon Valley Bike Trains are regularly scheduled group rides for bike commute destinations in Santa Clara County, California. The rides are organized as an outgrowth of “bike buddy” systems for popular cycling routes throughout the South Bay.

Inspiration for this project comes from L.A. Bike Trains and NYC Bike Trains. Another similar concept is the popular SF2G (which stands for “S.F. to South Bay”) resource for bike commuters who travel from San Francisco to destinations on the Peninsula and South Bay.

Kinda sorta similar are Safe Routes to School Bike Trains, which are bikey versions of the Walking School Bus. The focus of this page, however, are adult bike commuters.

In spite of the logo appearance, there is not affiliation between Caltrain, the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, or Samtrans and this ad hoc collection of bike group bike commutes.

  • San Jose Bike Train Guadalupe Line

San Jose Bike Train Guadalupe Line is an inclusive, no-drop social ride. We’ll love you no matter your style of bike, apparel, age or body shape. Pace is 10 to 12 MPH. Plan for a short coffee stop at Bel Bacio Italian Cafe in Little Italy San Jose.

The Guadalupe Line meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday every month at Diridon Station, rain or shine, with departure at 8 AM. This train is designed specifically to introduce travel by bike to newcomers and uses the Guadalupe River Trail to serve destinations along the Guadalupe Parkway / North 1st Street corridor. This includes the Santa Clara County buildings, San Jose International Airport, Technology Drive, Cisco, VTA and other employers near 1st Street along Taylor, Hedding, Brokaw, Trimble, Montague Expressway and River Oaks. A spur travels to the Santa Clara Oracle campus via bike paths the entire way.

Questions? Contact the conductor at the Facebook event page, via Twitter, or on Google Plus. You can also follow the ride in progress on Glympse. No RSVP is necessary, but it’s probably a good idea to let us know to look for you if you plan to show up. Cancellations will be posted to the Facebook event page and Twitter.
