So who in the world is Scott Nydam? This 30 year old cyclist for Team BMC took the limelight for much of Stage 2 when he held the lead for almost the entire race. Nydam broke away from the field and rode solo after only 10 miles, gaining a lead that grew to as much as 15 minutes. Nydam, who calls Santa Rosa home, clearly delighted the crowds with his performance. Since these hills above Santa Rosa are his stomping grounds, he knew the route to Sacramento like the back of his hand, confidently taking the hairpin turns on the descent in spite of the wet, slick roads that took down one of the photo motorcycles on Tuesday.
Scott Nydam was visibly exhausted by the time he reached the college town of Davis, and the peloton managed to reel him in just 15 miles from the finish.
Scott has a wonderful blog where he writes about his challenges, his training, and his father’s cancer.
Nydam was awarded the “Most Agressive Rider” jersey during the podium ceremony in Sacramento on Tuesday.
