  3. hey, what can you do when you're trying to break news? You had what you thought was a reliable source that you most likely trusted and who probably came through on previous occasion.

You certainly have taken the highest road possible in retracting your statement and apologizing to those involved.

That says a lot more about you than your previous misstatement.

…i say that w/ the pure hope that someday testing procedures won't allow for cheating but the "questions" will always remain…

…it's a shame that such a beautiful sport should be besmirched but you can't put the genie back in the bottle…

  9. How do you know the rumor wasn't true?

Did you see what Rock put out on twitter today? If that's not an admission that the whole thing is true, i dont know what is.

Don't be so quick to admit a 'mistake' that has not been made.

  11. Actually, "anonymous," I'd say Rock's tweet read much more as an admonition to those who take delight in damaging the reputations of others. Much like you, sir.

As for Fritz, I thought your post was fairly even handed. You took a "wait and see" approach to the story, merely mentioning the twitter by the employee of Hincapie Sportswear. I certainly did not feel as though you jumped to conclusions about the truthfulness of that tweet.

What a terrific reminder that you should stick with your gut. This story was posted here nearly a month ago. Who needs Cyclingnews?
