San Jose Via Velo report

Happy Sunday, everybody!

Yesterday, San Jose held its first ever open streets event, Via Velo, when the city closed off about a mile of San Fernando Street across downtown. This modest street party inspired by other Ciclovia style street closings brought out a number of families with their bikes, along with information booths from the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, VTA, and the bike shops iMINUSD and Hyland Family Bicycles.

San Jose Bike Party came out in force, bringing their lively brand of energy to the soirée and organizing bike rides inducing newcomers to venture beyond the traffic-free Via Velo venue.

The fixed gear college kids were also here in force, just hanging out with their friends on their bikes.

  1. What ever happened to San Jose Via Velo? I keep hoping San Jose’s mini-Cyclovia will come back.
