The Mary Avenue bike bridge in Cupertino connects Cupertino to Sunnyvale where Mary Avenue is bisected at I-280 near Highway 85, providing a walkable and bikeable route to Homestead High School from neighborhoods south of I-280.
This visually striking cable-stayed bridge was completed in 2009. The contractor building this bridge had mounted a webcam for the duration of the project. Here’s the time-lapse of the bridge under construction. Enjoy!
The bridge was rededicated and named the Don Burnett Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge in 2011. Burnett, who passed away in 2010, was instrumental in getting funds for this bridge as a Cupertino city councilmember.
I don’t know if you saw this, but there’s also a time-lapse of the Robert I Schroder Overcrossing. Here’s a direct link to the time-lapse http://www.arup.com/Home/Projects/Robert_Schroder_overcrossing/Construction_TimeLapse.aspx
(Full disclosure: I work for Arup, the engineering firm of record for the bridge, and did some work for the bridge.)
Pretty cool; thanks for posting that link. Looks like the bridge was built over 3 nights?
Yes. I think it was a series of weekend nights, Friday through Sunday nights.
