The Los Angeles mayor is said to be a top contender to replace outgoing Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. What do you all think?
Villaraigosa has done good things for transportation in LA – but LA is still a poster child for what not to do with transportation infrastructure. I am not sure about having him as Transportation Secretary. One of the jobs of any cabinet member is to act as an advisor to the chief executive – Villaraigosa made a big point of supporting the California 3′ law, but as the mayor of the biggest city in CA, he was not able to persuade Brown not to veto the law TWICE. Will he be any more effective in getting good transportation policy set at the national level?
