San Francisco as a stand in for Europe

Robin Moore directed this promotional video for Bike Snob’s latest book on bike travel around the world. Moore also cameos as “Le Velo” in this video. How many San Francisco landmarks and locations can you identify?

Although you’ll find his trademark satire throughout the book, this is a book, first and foremost, on bike advocacy. The Snob has a young son now, and he discovered first hand the backlash that occurs when you take your kid biking in America. So he asked: What does it take to create a culture where cycling as a family is the norm?

You can find his answers in his book Bike Snob Abroad: Strange Customs, Incredible Fiets, and the Quest for Cycling Paradise, available for pre-order. It begins shipping the day after April Fools Day.

Sue Knaup has a passion to encourage cycling for all members of society. One way she does this is through One Street‘s Social Bike Business program which supports local leaders who are committed to providing disadvantaged people with affordable, quality transportation bicycles; job training; and jobs. One Street’s social bike program follows a sustainable business model, charging full retail for products and services with microloans and subsidies going only to people who truly need them. They provide their services at a bicycle community center that’s open during normal business hours in a location convenient and welcoming to the most disadvantaged residents of their community.
