Rest Day

Happy Monday, all.

It’s been a brutal weekend for riders racing in the Tour de France. I had a hard time watching. I will not post photos or video of Johnny Hoogerland’s bare backside here, but below video of his inspiring podium presentation after he crawled to the finish after he was HIT BY A CAR and TANGLED IN BARBED WIRE.

The current list of DNFs (with reasons).

Cyclosm: Is the 2011 Tour de France really more dangerous? A look at the stats.

Tweet from Jonathan Vaughters this morning: “Everyone: thanks for the concern, but DZ is fine. No head injury. His personality made the Frech docs think he wasn’t ‘right’ but he’s fine.”

When I saw his wreck, I thought, man I hope that wasn’t a barbed-wire fence he just hit.  Hours later, the photo showed up online and I saw the damage it’d done.  I feel really bad for the guy, and hope somehow compensation from the driver is in his future.
