Al Fritz, creator of Schwinn’s iconic Sting-Ray bicycle, passed at age 88.
Full obit in the LA Times: Al Fritz dies at 88; Schwinn exec developed the Sting-Ray bike. H/T to Mike Norri.
I have to admit that I never had (nor wanted) a Stingray. In 1963 I was riding a 3-speed Raleigh, I believe. The $50 bike then would be $375 in 2013, and I think you can get a somewhat better kid’s bike for that price now.
