Designing bikes for women, 1958: The Glamour Bike

Says this marketing copy from 1958 for the Raleigh “Glamour Bicycle”: “Peggy Hayward models a new Raleigh bicycle specially designed for fashion-conscious women. Its attachments include a make-up mirror, lipstick holder and dress guard.

This Raleigh appears to be based on Boulevard Tourist and seems very similar to the (Raleigh-owned) Triumph “Pink Witch,” which featured a Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub, front rack, fenders, and bell. Newspaper clamp, front hub dynamo and lights were available options on the Pink Witch.

  1. Glamour bikes were the golden age of biking. The o;d Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub I remember having one of those on an old bike of mine.
