80 women raced 74 miles in gorgeous weather around Lake Tahoe in the first stage of the women’s Amgen Tour of California road race today. See results under the photo.
American Katie Hall of UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team sprinted for the win and the yellow jersey this afternoon, followed by Alena Amialiusik (Germany) of Velocio-SRAM and Lauren Komanski (USA) of Twenty16 p/b Sho-Air for second and third place on the podium respectively.
British racer Sarah Storey of Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International will wear the Lexus Queen of the Mountain Jersey during Stage 2 tomorrow. Hannah Barnes, also of Great Britain and racing for UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team was selected as SRAM Best Young Rider Jersey, while Canadian Allison Beveridge of the Canada National Team has the Visit California Sprint Jersey.
The pro women’s race continues with Stage 2 on Saturday at 10:30 AM beginning and ending at the Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe.
