Superheroes take over the Santa Cruz River Walk on September 18, 2015.
Families are invited to participate in this off-street, kid-centric ride appropriate for all ages and skill levels, hosted by Bike Santa Cruz County.
“We’ve noticed that when parents show up with kids at our community rides, everyone has more fun,” says Tawn Kennedy, Bike Santa Cruz County youth programs director. “Parents tell me that their kids won’t stop talking about rides for weeks,” Kennedy says. “We thought it would be fun to celebrate how powerful we are by coming together as a community with a superhero theme,” Kennedy continues, “because if superheroes couldn’t fly, they’d obviously be riding bikes.”
The community is invited to explore their super powers at the Museum of Art and History prior to the ride. From 4:00pm to 5:00pm the Museum will host a session of cape making, bike and helmet decoration, and face painting, with a superhero photo booth to document the fun.
At 5:00pm, riders will head over to the Santa Cruz River Walk for a fun and easy two-mile bike ride. Costumes are encouraged!
“This is an opportunity to have fun while building community on bikes. We want to see more kids biking and walking to school, but we know it can be hard for some families without community support,” says Amelia Conlen, Bike Santa Cruz County director. “Rides like this are an opportunity for parents and kids to meet other families who also want to ride, and practice their safe cycling skills.”
