Healdsburg CA to consider vulnerable users ordinance

The Healdsburg city council in Sonoma County California will consider a proposal for a vulnerable user ordinance, according to the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition (SCBC). The proposed ordinance allows cyclists and pedestrians to file a civil suit against motorists who harass them and is modeled on similar legislation now in effect in the city of Los Angeles.

Field Guide to the 113th Congress House of Representatives Transportation Committee and Their Support for Bicycling

Cap’n Transit in New York has done something pretty cool. He took the newly designated members of the US House of Representatives House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, looked up the American Community Survey numbers for the number of car-free households and transit riders in their respective districts, and created charts showing who these members represent.

California Senate committee appointments

The Sacramento Bee reports that Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg has released the full Senate committee roster for the 2013-2014 legislative session that begins today.

Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) returns as chair of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee, which is where you’ll find most bills that will affect cyclists. The Republican co-chair, Ted Gaines of Roseville, is an avid cyclist who can often be seen biking to work in the state capital. DeSaulnier voted in favor of extending the cell phone ban to cyclists, while Gaines voted against it. Both DeSaulnier and Gaines voted against High Speed Rail. Both voted in favor of Lowenthal’s 3 foot passing law.
