After a delayed start on a short stage, racing finally got under way on the 2011 Amgen Tour of California as the riders raced through cool weather on an all downhill stage from Nevada City for a sprint finish through scattered rain in Sacramento.

Due to continued inclement weather in the Sierra Mountains, the second stage start for the 2011 Amgen Tour of California has been moved from Squaw Valley to Nevada City.
Riders will begin the race at 12:15 and race 61 miles to Sacramento, where they will complete three circuit laps before finishing in front of the Capital Dome sometime after about 3:30 PM.
Nevada City hosted the first stage last year and local organizers were able to mobilize quickly to accommodate the change in plans.

Highway 1 landslide forces route change for Stage 5, which begins in Seaside, passes through Fort Ord and Laguna Seca to Carmel Valley, Greenfield, King City, past Lake Nacimiento to Paso Robles.
Due to closure of segments of California Highway 1, the route for May 19th’s Stage 5 of the 2011 Amgen Tour of California will be modified. Four recent rock and mudslides along Highway 1 have closed the coastal road, necessitating an inland route between Seaside and Paso Robles. The sixth-annual Amgen Tour of California, which will feature a world-class field of competitors, will take place from May 15 – 22.
