Verizon is seeking a cyclist for an upcoming commercial shoot in the Bay Area. Casting will be held Thursday, December 20th and Friday, December 21st. So if you’re a male cyclist between the ages of 30-38 and are white or hispanic, you might be able to pick up a quick $1500!

Here are the complete details:

Commercial audition for Verizon

Usage: Network, Cable, Syndication, Spot, DRTV, Internet, New Media, Multicultural market TV use
Broadcast territories: US, Puerto Rico
Run: 6 weeks
Rate: SAG scale approx. $1500 for the day + residuals

Role is for: Male/30-38 years old/Caucasian, Hispanic/Mediterranean
He is fit and attractive. He is biking up and down hills in San Francisco with ease. He should be endearing with a natural charm… one of those cool SF guys. He is fit but we do not want him to look like some uber-athlete – not like bike riding or being an athlete is his job (OK if you are a messenger). For the commercial we see him biking throughout the city, visiting some of the more noticeable landmarks in San Francisco. For the shoot he will need to have the stamina to bike A LOT throughout the day.

I will be holding auditions in a casting studio this Thursday and Friday, the 20th and 21st in downtown SF. There will be a callback for people the client would like to see again on Monday, January 7th. If you get booked the shoot will be in SF on Saturday, January 12th. You would need to be available all day.

• Which day would be better for you if I want to get you in for an audition in SF this Thursday or Friday? What time of day is best for you?
• Are you available for potential callback on Monday, January 7th?
• Are you available if you get booked for the shoot in SF on Saturday, January 12th?

Good news folks: there were a lot of bicycle gigs advertised this week. Before I get into my favorites I’d like to give you some quick information on how I find these jobs. My main source is a simple RSS feed (I use Google Reader) of job listings from about 75 cities on Craigslist. This is basically an alert system that tells me if the word bicycle pops up in a job ad. Feel free to contact me if you’d like more details about this process.

• Peddler’s Creamery makes dairy and non-dairy ice cream using bicycle power. How cool is that? They are currently hiring all positions including human motors. I know I’ll be stopping by the next time I’m in L.A.
• Ride your bike and fix mobile phones with Cheetah Repair, a Downtown Charlotte startup.
• Parks and Trails New York in Albany runs two major bike tours each year to promote parks and heritage tourism. They are seeking an Assistant Bike Tour Director.
• Ride your bike around Orange Country advertising an undisclosed something for $15/hr.
• Canyon Ranch on the outskirts of Tucson, AZ is looking for a Hiking and Biking Guide.

Other awesome jobs:

• Are you “gnar”? Do you like to juggle? Ever thought about modeling? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you might like to join this unnamed San Diego bicycle accessory business as their Marketing/Executive Assistant/Promo Model/Juggler.
• If you’ve been in shops for a while and are considering leaving the retail world, BTI, a bicycle parts distributor based in Santa Fe, is looking for a Customer Service Representative.
• Young’s Bicycle Shop on Nantucket Island is staffing up for next season. Looks like a pretty interesting place to work. A couple of positions are being advertised near the top of the UBI Job Listings page.
• Wheels Manufacturing is hiring an Inside Sales Rep.
• Leader Bikes is also looking for an Inside Sales/Customer Support dude or gal.
• Performance Bicycle needs a Full-time Image Retoucher with design experience at their corporate offices in Chapel Hill, NC.
• Park-a-Bike handles the necessary (and slightly boring) job of designing and selling bicycle parking solutions to businesses. They are looking for a Content Writer.
• If you have a background in communications or public relations, the city of Kansas City is looking for a Public Affairs Coordinator to join a team charged with increasing opportunities for cyclists, pedestrians and ride-sharers.
• The American Diabetes Association of Western PA is seeking a Special Events Intern for the first half of 2013 to assist with the popular Tour de Cure Bicycle Ride.
• Salt Lake County has an interesting Bicycle Ambassador Program. They need a Grad-school Intern to coordinate stuff.
• Bike sharing is on the rise; heck, even I’ve tried it out. You can get involved with the New York City Bike Share as their next Skilled Bike Mechanic.
• …and if you’re truly dedicated to social change and utilitarian cycling – and you have some serious operational skills – you could be the next Director of Fundraising and Events at Bikes Not Bombs.

Right now there seems to be quite a few opportunities for graphic designers and technology enthusiasts in the bicycle biz. But there are some other interesting possibilities out there as well.

Graphic Design gigs:

• Mission Bicycle is a manufacturer and retail outlet selling locally made, affordable fixed gear frames. They’re good people. If you’re in the Bay Area, you can apply to be their full-time Graphic and Marketing Designer.
• Speaking of fixed gear bikes, CaraCi Bicycles is also seeking an In-House Graphic Designer.
• If you needed more evidence that the fixed gear trend hasn’t subsided, Pure Fix Cycles is also hiring a Full-time Graphic Designer. Or if you have some serious chops, you can apply to be their National Sales Manager.
• …and an unnamed waterproof bag manufacturer in Seattle is looking for a Graphic Artist Intern. I’m guessing this is a job at Detours.

Other gigs:

• This sounds pretty cool: Resource Revival, an eclectic manufacturer of recycled bike art based in Mosier, Oregon, needs a Creative and Tech Savvy Administrative Assistant.
• If you happen to be a student at Eastern Kentucky University (Go Colonels!), you can pick up a part-time gig as the Campus Bike Mechanic.
• CycleLife USA is a half bike shop, half coffee shop deal in Washington D.C. They need a Barista who can compete in barista competitions and likes bicycles.
• AmeriCorps is hiring four paid volunteers to refurbish bicycles in the Tuscon area for the Pima Prevention Partnership, a micro-enterprise that sells refurbished bicycles to low-income community members.
• The American Society of Civil Engineers is hiring a Bicycle Program Manager for the Montgomery County, Maryland region.
• The City of Brownsville, Texas is looking for a Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator. Best tacos this side of the Rio Grande.
• OP3, a National MS Society partner and the logistics team behind the Bike MS Coastal and Vegas Challenge rides, is looking for an Event Coordinator to manage the operations of major fundraising events.
• Zagster, a startup focusing on turnkey bike rental systems for corporate campuses and large rental properties, is seeking a Director of Operations.
• Trek is hiring an entry-level Customer Service Representative based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Um, yes please. Brush up on your Portuguese and check out the job over at the Trek Bikes career page under the Customer Service section.
