The San Jose Bike Party rolled through Los Gatos the other week. It “snarled traffic” on Santa Cruz Avenue. I wonder how they tell, since traffic on Santa Cruz Avenue through Los Gatos is always snarled.
The bike ride through town snarled traffic, so police rerouted drivers away from N. Santa Cruz Avenue.
“It was terrible,” former Los Gatos resident Emerald Hathaway said. “I couldn’t even get onto N. Santa Cruz. They were riding around all the cars. It was quite a sight.”
Los Gatos Weekly-Times columnist Mary Ann Cook also got stuck in the melee, saying it took a long time to get out of downtown.

The bicyclists _are_ traffic. They're just showing how to actually move on Santa Cruz.
If the bikes were causing the traffic, then why would they have to ride around and through slow moving cars?
Are these the crazies that were riding *ON* Highway 17 over the weekend? I wasn't in downtown, but there were a bunch of riders on the freeway, in the lanes, between Lexington and Downtown and that is unacceptable. There is a beautiful bike path between those points and there was no reason for them to be changing lanes on a FREEWAY.
@crm- bikes are legal on section of hwy 17. the bike path there is not paved so many people use that section of highway instead. as long as everyone is respecting each other's rights, it should be fine.
and no, that wasn't BP on the highway.
@crm – I'm pretty sure Bike Party doesn't venture on Hwy 17. I only see cyclists very occasionally on 17 between Alma Bridge Rd and the first Los Gatos exit. That “beautiful bike path” is a gravel pit near the dam. That's where I ride but it's hardly pleasant or fun.
