NYC Commercial Bicyclist rules

The New York City Department of Transportation requires a “Commercial Bicyclist Safety” poster at businesses where commercial cyclists are employed.

This poster is available from NYC DOT in English, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Italian, Korean, Russian and Spanish.

Commercial cyclists in New York City must also carry a commercial cyclist ID card with the cyclist’s photo, employer, and a 3 digit ID number assigned by the employer. They must also wear helmets and “upper body apparel” with the business name and the cyclist’s 3 digit ID number. These vests often seem to be reflective safety vests.

Transportation Nation reports NYC DOT will send yellow shirted inspectors out to ensure restaurants and other businesses are following these rules for their delivery cyclists.
