Each, the San Francisco Bay Area Metropolitan Transportation Commission selects a bike commuter of the year from each of the nine counties in the Bay Area. For San Francisco County, the winner is your friend and mine, John Murphy.

Thursday, May. 13 | 6-10pm, The Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell St. Those legs and that bike in the poster belong to friend of Cyclelicous Meli of Bikes and the City. The photographer, Dustin, recently moved away from San Francisco all the way to the Santa Cruz Mountains. I’m told he lives off grid in a yurt about two valleys away from my home.

The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition is stepping up its efforts in preparation for Bike to Work Day, and they need your help. On the BTWD Volunteering page you will find a list of positions, including pre-event opportunities that you can do right now! Get creative and help create art and prose that will get the word out about biking to work this May!
Applying for a volunteer position is easy, just fill out the online form and the SVBC will provide you with all the information you need to get started. They are looking for business outreach, writers and reporters, videographers, photosgraphers, graphic artists, poster distributors, Energizer Station leaders, clean up crews, a band for the after-work party, party organizers, and more. National Bike To Work Day is scheduled for Friday, May 16 in the United States. Here’s the official site at the League of American Bicyclists.
San Francisco Bay Area does Bike To Work Day on Thursday, May 15, 2008.
Santa Cruz County Bike To Work Day is also scheduled for May 15, with another Bike To Work event scheduled in the Autumn, also. Ditto for San Benito and Monterey Counties.
Colorado Bike To Work Day is Wednesday, June 25, 2008.
