Since my office move from Menlo Park to Santa Clara I intended a weekly bike ride over the Santa Cruz mountains to work. That plan fell victim to my sloth, until today.

I began the day writing and running my first ever Android app — a trivial “Hello World” program — during my 30 minute bus ride over the Santa Cruz Mountains. After that, I rode seven uneventul miles to the office, and now here I am.

I know Biking Viking and the rest of you in America east of the Rocky Mountains are suffering through a heat wave, but it’s jacket weather here in California in the middle of July. That means perfect weather for tonight’s San Jose Bike Party ride. The theme: “Mad Science.” Tonight’s ride starts promptly at 8 PM from Taylor & 9th in San Jose, with various feeder rides to the start. Confidential to Ian: No idea yet if I’ll be there or not.
8/1/2011 Update: Governor Jerry Brown vetoes SB 582.
The California Senate passed SB 582 — an act to mandate bicycle and transit commuter benefits — this morning. Governor Jerry Brown now has 12 days to either sign or veto this bill.
I’ve been in training this week learning the ins and outs of Fortify Software’s source code analysis and audit tools. Think of it as Lint running on Java.
