San Francisco Wiggle PSA

“San Francisco has too many hills and too much traffic to be enjoyable and safe for cyclists.”

Or: “The Urban Myth that desperately needs to be exposed for what it really is: a myth.”

San Francisco has long been a great place to ride, and broad-spectrum bicycle infrastructure upgrades have made it even better in the past few years. Miles and miles of new, clearly-marked bike lanes, traffic calming measures, bike boxes, and designated routes that avoid busy streets and go around the steepest hills are just some of the things cyclists in the City by the Bay are smiling about.

One of the oldest and most used of the designated routes in SF is the “Wiggle” . (more…)

Eye on the Bay and KT

Kristin Tieche of Vélo Vogue in San Francisco co-hosted a recent segment of the local magazine show Eye on the Bay. She and host Liam Mayclem portrayed bicycling in San Francisco in a very positive light!

Enjoy the video. They start at My Dutch Bike on Market Street, ride down Market Street, visit Mojo Bike Cafe and Nooworks (Hi Gwen!) before finally stopping at AT&T Park where Kristin brags about the stupendous bike parking facilities. I even spied a Zero Per Gallon sticker at 3:39!

(And never mind the sidewalk riding — Kristin knows it’s illegal in San Francisco but they’re obviously staged for the camera’s benefit. Please excuse the artistic license.)

SF bike rampage suspect: Avid bicyclist

Police identify the suspect in last Wednesday night’s rampage against Mission Hill and Potrero District cyclists as David Mark Clark of Albany, CA. Here’s the kicker:

The Clark [his landlady] knew was a kind man, very low key, concerned about health and nutrition and very social. And he was an “avid bicyclist,” she said.

Maybe Mr Clark was exposed to Toxo? More in the SF Chronicle. Props to Kit.
