Bike Snob NYC is coming to San Francisco which film making comic genius Robin Moore (“It’s All About Performance”, “Get Dirty”, “Le Velo”) has selected as his American stand-in for the Netherlands.
The video is a trailer for his third book, A Bike Snob Abroad: Strange Customs, Incredible Fiets, and the Quest for Cycling Paradise, and needs extras by the thousands, but he’ll take what he can get.

Who noticed this little blurb in yesterday’s job openings post?
Alta Bicycle Share, contractor to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) and operator of the Bay Area bike share program (BABS), is seeking a General Manager to oversee staff of over 50 people and all aspects of launch and ongoing operations.
I heard BAAQMD and Alta finally signed a contract sometime in late November. Does anybody have an up-to-date timetable on when we can finally see these bikes roll out in the San Francisco Bay Area?
And, ummm, “BABS”? Is that really what they’re going with?

The UC-San Francisco Osher Center for Integrative Medicine [1] offers a “Mini Medical School for the Public” on a variety of topics.
They’ll offer a course on “The Medicine of Cycling” beginning on Thursday, February 28 2013.

I’ve seen more media reports lately of bike thief arrests in San Francisco and in Santa Cruz. I don’t know if there’s more media attention or if police are actually cracking down on it more, but Aaron Bialick at Streetsblog SF sees a hopeful trend in recent bike thief arrests in San Francisco.
Bike theft has generally been a low risk crime for criminals, but if there’s an increased risk of time in the criminal justice system from stealing bikes, perhaps they’ll go back to stealing cars and catalytic converters.

Passive language (“the car door opened” of its own accord) is typical in collision news reports like this, but the cyclists swerving into the bus adds an interesting passive / aggressive touch.
A bicyclist was injured in a collision with a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency bus Saturday after swerving to miss a car door that opened on Geary Street downtown.
More in CBS SF: Cyclist Swerves, Hits Muni Bus In Downtown San Francisco. Opening a door into the path of a cyclist is illegal in all 50 states, but there’s no word on if the mysterious self-opening door was cited.

Platty Jo reports on last night’s San Francisco Police bike theft workshop.
SFPD’s Inspector Steven Pomatto oversees many of the stolen bike theft cases that are reported to Mission Station. After his first successful case — reuniting a stolen bike recovered in the Mission with its owner in Lake Tahoe (for which he was sent a cake as a thank-you gift) — he’s developed a passion for recovering bikes through the years. Unfortunately, while there have been some happy recovery stories, the overall success rate is low: it’s usually between 5-10%.
Over 60 stolen bicycles are reported stolen in the Mission every month, and it’s more than the neighborhood police department can handle on an ongoing basis. Insp. Pomatto gave a run-down on how they prioritize the flood of cases that land on their desks.
