Santa Cruz man stabbed while stopping a bike theft

KSBW reports:

The first stabbing on Coral Street happened at 8:19 a.m. Saturday, when the victim confronted a man who was trying to steal his bicycle.

“The suspect stabbed the victim in the arm and fled without the bike,” police said.

The suspect (you can see his mugshot on the KSBW news story page) is one mean looking hombre. 62-year-old William Jones is on probation for murder in Idaho and is considered armed and dangerous. Call 911 if you see him. Read a little more background on William Jones at the Santa Cruz Police Blog.

Cyclists for Santa Cruz Metro citizen committee

Santa Cruz Metro (the transit operator for Santa Cruz County, California) seeks volunteers to serve on the Metro Advisory Committee (MAC). The Santa Cruz Metro Board of Directors looks to this citizen advisory board for policy and operational issues that impact Metro riders. Meetings are the third Wednesday of every month at 6 PM at Pacific Station in downtown Santa Cruz. I’ve been asked to join, but I already have a long-standing obligation on Wednesday nights.

Winter cycling tips for Santa Cruz, California

Last Saturday, I was just riding along in beautiful 68 degree sunny weather on Brommer Street in Santa Cruz when I shot a photo of Jamie Bianchini towing his son Luca in a bike trailer. I uploaded the photo to Google Plus. Google then applied “autoawesome” to the image to overlay animated snow flakes over Jamie, his bike, and the passing Honda.
