Sunnyvale to North First Bikepool begins

A new bikepool (think “carpool” but with bikes) begins tomorrow morning, Friday, May 6, 2016 from Sunnyvale, CA to the North 1st area of San Jose.

This casually paced, 8 mile ride begins 7:40 A.M. at Plaza Del Sol in front of the Sunnvyale Caltrain Station, where you have a choice of several coffee shops to obtain your pre-ride caffeine.

The ride takes place almost entirely on bike-laned roads and bike paths.

For more information, see the Facebook event page.

2016 Sea Otter Classic photos

I’m exhausted, so here’s a quickie link to my photos from the 2016 Sea Otter Classic taking place now through the weekend at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, CA. View the slideshow here, or click through for larger views and captions (such as they are).

Sea Otter continues through the weekend. Day pass is $15. I think they charge for car parking, but I’m not certain since I bike there. If you decide to bike, please note that it’s a pretty tough haul up a long hill, and expect fierce headwinds Friday afternoon if you plan to descend South Boundary Road into Seaside.

Limited Edition nickel plated Brompton folder

Brompton has one of their limited edition nickel plated folding bikes on display at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, CA. 1500 numbered bikes were made, of which 150 are available for purchase from dealers in the USA.

Brompton also has new bags on display at their booth, along with their bikes.

Brompton’s West Coast Championship Race takes place tonight at the Laguna Seca Raceway. As of Thursday afternoon, over 80 people registered for the race. Fastest man and woman win a trip to London to participate in the World Championship there.

Sea Otter Classic Coffee Map

The Sea Otter Classic 2016 outside of Monterey, CA begins tomorrow. The weather may be a little unsettled and on the cool side, so I made a map of the coffee spots with booth numbers I know about at the festival grounds for your benefit. At least one of these vendors will even give free samples. The Food Court no doubt has coffee too. There’s also usually a candy coffee drink vendor right outside of the entry gate at the ticket sales area.

Sea Otter Festival 2016 COFFEE MAP

Coffee companies at Sea Otter this year include 10 Speed Coffee of Calabasas, CA; Central Coast Espresso of Seaside; Don Francisco’s Coffee of Vernon, CA in LA County; and the Monterey Peet’s Coffee.

Yeah, I know about the two Starbucks drive thrus on Del Rey Canyon, but you’re in California, so you might as well drink coffee roasted here in California.

Watch this space along with my other social media accounts at Twitter, Instagram and Flickr (remember them?) for updates from Sea Otter this weekend.
