The California Highway Patrol reports 21 fatal traffic collisions over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
19 of those 21 deaths were vehicle occupants throughout the state. The lone pedestrian fatality early Friday morning was 21 year old Joshua Epling, who ran across Interstate Highway 15 near Lake Elsinore at 3 AM when he was struck by multiple vehicles traveling 65 to 70 MPH. Only one of the drivers stopped after hitting Epling.
The single cyclist death occurred on Highway 101 near Airport Road in Eureka, CA, when 52 year old Brian William Davenport was hit from behind by three vehicles at 5:15 PM. All involved drivers stopped. Highway 101 through Eureka is not a limited access highway — cyclists are allowed on the highway here. The speed limit approaching Airport Road is 50 MPH.
